Description
Nossa Senhora da Guia is a privileged place to admire the vast coast from S. Bartolomeu do Mar until Viana do Castelo.
The actual chapel, inagurated on Mai 19th 1974, arrises from small niches of other times.
The tradition attributes two legends to Senhora da Guia. One explains the existence of pictures of the Saint. During the Barbarian invasions and later on the Muslim invasions this land was refuge of the population who brough the image of the saint to protect them and remain at the niche of fragas….the actual chapel was created in mid 1970 creating a better cult conditions.
The other legend is about a monk that inhabited a cave at Mount Jóia in the XIX Century, also known as Monte Cabreiro. The monk remained in the cave during summer and traveled to Lisbon during winter to sell lotary tickets… the cave is a natural cavity carved in the rock where you may observe three images of Nossa Senhora.
