Bridge and Medieval Road of Cepeda

Penafiel
Description
The stretch of the medieval road between Porto and Amarante, extends for about 150 meters of stone pavement between the town of Penafiel and river Sousa, crossing the river by the old bridge adjacent to the road, rebuilt in 1412. Its importance is even greater if we consider that this helped the development of the village of Arrifana, and that it was probably one of the main development vectors of what is today the city of Penafiel. The medieval bridge is formed by a single round arch, filled in dry stone, laying the seat toll bridge still "in situ". In the face of the road we can find the Costeira Inn, which was dedicated to the Holy Spirit to give support and assistance to travelers, and complets this set, being an excellent example of the medieval road system that survived until the present days.
