Pillory of Esposende

Esposende
Description
This is an interesting  example of the municipal power and the autonomy of those free from servitude .The plinth with pillowed faces sits on the tradicional base of three steps. The octagonal pillar is surmounted by a capital with plant motifs  and a cross of Christ. At the top we can see an armilary sphere, symbol of the portuguese voyages in the 16th century
